2011 Theme: Cultural Expressions of Nationalism in Québec/Expressions culturelles du nationalisme au Québec

Open Invitation for:  Academics interested in Québec Studies from across the United States

April 1-3, 2011

From its inception in 1988, the annual Québec Winter Symposium has provided a unique professional development opportunity for professors from across the United States interested in Québec Studies. The symposium, conducted entirely in French, is a concentrated workshop focusing on a specific Québec-based topic or theme.

The QWS begins Friday afternoon and ends Sunday by noon. Participants will be provided with presentations by leading academic specialists, briefings by significant literary and cultural contributors, as well as cultural activities relevant to our program theme. The format of the QWS will be consistent with past programs.

Participants are required to provide their own transportation to and from the hotel in Centre-ville Montréal. We ask participants to plan to arrive at the conference hotel by 2:00 pm on Friday afternoon, and to depart no sooner than noon on Sunday. There will be a brief period of free time scheduled on Saturday afternoon. Given the rigorous nature of our program, past experience has proven that it is preferable for participants who travel far distances and/or across time zones to arrive the day prior to our program. Should participants wish to take advantage of opportunities Montréal has to offer outside of the QWS program activities, it is advisable to plan a stay to be at least a day longer or more than our program.

Registration includes: welcome reception on Friday evening; daily breakfast on Saturday and Sunday; lunch on Saturday; and pause cafés during meeting sessions. All other meals are at the expense of the participant.
