Writing Skills Specialist
I am a SUNY Plattsburgh alumnus, having graduated in 2002 with a BA in English and Theatre. It was difficult completing two majors, but I had plenty of help from Delia Drake, my SSS advisor, and supportive faculty in both departments. Afterwards, I worked for a year in Community Outreach before receiving my MA in English from Ohio University in 2005. When I moved back to NY, I sought out a teaching appointment at SUNY Plattsburgh. I joined the SSS office in August 2008, where I teach courses in College Writing, Reading, and Grammar. The thing I love best about being a Writing Skills Specialist is that I get to meet new and interesting students every semester, and talk about books with them.
I enjoy books, live theatre, Star Trek trivia, the semi-colon, decorating my desk, drinking Malta, and taking my little boy on trips with the SSS. I look forward to working with and learning about my students.
Hometown: I proudly represent the Boogie Down Bronx - Go Yankees!
Courses Taught: In addition to ENG101, I teach RDG100 and RDG110. I also adjunct for the English Department, where I have taught ENG295: Ancient Myth and Modern Mythmaking
Most Memorable College Experiences: My first semester as an SSS student, I received a 4.0! That was pretty memorable. Also, I met my husband Michael Lewandowski (BA '01) here, and together with our little cardinals Sage and Matthew, we make new memories everyday - all thanks to SUNY Plattsburgh!
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activities: I enjoyed being a part of the College Theatre Association when I was a student, and I still try to come to all the theatre productions.
Best advice you would give someone regarding college:
- Teachers don't "give" grades - students "earn" them.
- College is a great time to learn and grow, if your mind is truly open to it.
- Time Management is key if you want to succeed.
