Student Support Services Staff

Bryan C. Kieser

Mathematics/Reading Skills Specialist

As a Math/Reading Skills Specialist at Student Support Services, I work with program eligible students in College Algebra, Pre-calculus, Introduction to Statistics, and Critical Reading as instructor, facilitator, or tutor. I also enjoy participating in our program sponsored cultural events, and take great pleasure in coordinating our program's community service activities.

Hometown: I grew up in the Hudson Valley in Kinderhook, NY.

Professional/Personal Biography: I earned my BA from Fordham University in Classical Languages and my MS from U Albany in Reading. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to study Latin, Greek, Theology, and Mathematics with some wonderful teachers and with some great learners. Before coming to SUNY Plattsburgh I worked in many capacities with students with disabling conditions or socio-economic disadvantages and designed math components for economic empowerment through education programs seeded at Schenectady County Community College. Throughout my career I have striven to serve and strengthen society through educating students.

College in the Bronx during the 1970's provided a host of memorable experiences too numerous to mention. Classes with Dr. Brady and Fr. Ried were always golden. Conversations with Wayne Teasdale, a graduate student at that time, who later went on to practice and write on Interspirituality were always interesting. Going to a talk given by the Dalai Lama at the Cathedral at St. John the Divine and listening to Pharoah Sanders at the Village Vanguard were peak experiences.

I enjoy seeing our students transition from "customers" to learners.

Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activity: We are graced with a wonderful Gospel Choir whose events I've enjoyed over the years.

Best advice you would give someone regarding college: Here is a favorite quote that I would share:

"Sera nimis cras vive hodie" which roughly translated is "Tomorrow is far too late, live today." All living is learning when you really reflect on it.
