Student Support Services Staff

Tom Thompson

Writing Skills Specialist/Coordinator of Special Projects

I am a Writing Skills Specialist and the Coordinator of Special Projects at Student Support Services. As a graduate of Plattsburgh State and the Student Support Services program, I worked as a graduate assistant in the office for two years before joining the professional staff in the summer of 2005.

As a proud first-generation college student and a Plattsburgh native, having the opportunity to return to SSS and share my knowledge and experiences with current students has been tremendous. I especially enjoy meeting new students at orientation each summer and helping them get off to a good start in college. In addition to teaching courses, I am also an academic advisor for undeclared students who are SSS eligible and a STAR program advisor. I enjoy good food, reading, movies, following Cardinal sports, watching NHL hockey games, and spending time with friends and family. Welcome to SUNY Plattsburgh and the start of a life-changing adventure!
