Hang Tag Guidelines

Valid Dates

Hang tags are valid, upon receipt, through the tag expiration date or date of separation from the college, whichever is sooner. Student tags expire at the end of May; faculty/staff tags expire at the end of September; vendor and volunteer tags expire at the end of December; visitor tags expire as prescribed on the tag, not to exceed the last day in December, whichever is sooner.

Email your NAME, PLATE #, and TAG # to [email protected].

Hang Tag Disbursement

Faculty, Staff and Students

Hang tags are disbursed from a temporary UPD disbursement location at the Angell College Center, 10A-2P, Opening Week (Move-in Day through Wednesday); thereafter, tags are disbursed from University Police (Health Center Building.)

Note: Unclaimed faculty/staff tags are interoffice mailed September 15TH to the employee’s office address listed in Banner.

Other Campus and Affiliated Groups

The UPD Parking Manager (Health Center Building) disburses hang tags for:

  • temp hires (30 days or more)
  • 3rd party and affiliate organizations
  • Emeriti and alumni
  • ‘other’ students
  • spouse/partner
  • service and supply vendors
  • temporary handicap access
  • service vehicles
  •  Resident Directors
  • fuel efficient vehicles
  • Graduate Assistants
  • Veterans
  • Visitors (long-term visits beyond 48 hours)

Department ‘Authorized Agents disburse hang tags to:

  • volunteers (docents and Literacy Volunteers)
  • clinic visitors
  • prospective students/employees

University Police, Health Center Building; Student Accounts, Kehoe 101; and department ‘Authorized Agents’ disburse hang tags to:

  • Visitors (short-term visits of 48 hours or less; 72 hours on weekends)

Where to Display Your Hang Tag

Hang tag must be readable when displayed from the rear view mirror (or dash below mirror) within 48 hours of registering. A first offense for ‘no permit visible’ or ‘permit expired’ is waived as a warning upon the proper registration of the vehicle, and the filing of an appeal.

Updating Your Hang Tag

Registrant shall update registration information in MyPlattsburgh (login required) within 48 hours of a change in vehicle or residence.

Replacing a Lost or Stolen Hang Tag

File a Lost-Stolen Parking Hang Tag Affidavit. A replacement fee is charged for a lost/stolen tag upon the filing of an affidavit with University Police.

Canceling Your Hang Tag

An unwanted hang tag must be returned to:

A written cancellation request must be submitted to [email protected].

Note: Registrant remains liable for all outstanding fines, where applicable. If hang tag is returned within 10 business days from the date of receipt, the registrant is entitled to a refund of the parking fee. The registration fee is nonrefundable upon hang tag assignment.
