Re: Vice President for Student Affairs Search Committee Update
The search for a new vice president for student affairs to replace Bill Laundry is well underway. Earlier this fall, I asked Dr. Ed Miller to chair the search. He assisted me in naming members of the campus community to a search committee. That committee will meet again before Winter Commencement. The committee will review all resumés and materials submitted, consider the qualifications of each applicant, and decide what candidates should eventually be brought to Plattsburgh for the campus community to meet in March 2013.
An executive search firm has also been hired to assist in developing and implementing a recruitment strategy that will encourage potential candidates to apply. Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc., specialize in higher education. The principal consultants on this search are Dr. Jan Greenwood and Dr. Betty Turner Asher, who have served as university presidents, faculty members, and student affairs executives.
In addition to establishing a recruitment strategy, Greenwood/Asher & Associates will provide the search committee with evaluations of the candidates based on their experience, credentials and qualifications to help us decide if a candidate is a good fit. The new vice president must be an effective liaison between student affairs and both academic affairs and alumni affairs.
If the search unfolds as we hope it does, the new vice president will be named in April 2013 and assume office sometime in mid summer. In the meantime, the search committee has its work cut out before the finalists come to campus in the spring. Thanks to all of them for agreeing to serve.
