Karen Waterbury - Recreation Director
Karen began her role in Recreation at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2014 following almost 25 years of service patrolling the sidelines as the head women’s soccer coach at SUNY Plattsburgh. Originally from Binghamton, N.Y., Waterbury exited her head coaching position as one of the winningest NCAA Division III women’s soccer coaches of all time. During her time as a coach, she racked up a record of 279-164-33 (.621 winning percentage) and led three of her SUNY Plattsburgh squads to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament. Prior to her days as the Cardinals’ head coach, Waterbury played soccer at SUNY Plattsburgh and earned her bachelor’s degree in business marketing before graduating with a master’s degree in physical education from Ithaca College in 1989.
Waterbury is a certified American Red Cross instructor as well as Instructor Trainer in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, a waterfront Lifeguard, Instructor and Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Instructor and Instructor Trainer and is a certified pool operator. An active outdoor enthusiast, Waterbury enjoys biking, hiking, boating and tennis.

Emma Merkey - Lifeguard Coordinator
Emma is a senior Nursing major from Webster New york. She works as a lifeguard year round and is excited to be working as a head lifeguard this year. Emma will be teaching the non-credit lifeguarding courses, working with the AED program and supervising the lifeguards.
Zachary Bojanowskii - Recreation Coordinator
Zachary is a Sophomore Business Marketing major from Amherst, NY. Zachary will be supervising and training the staff in Memorial Hall gym and equipment issue room.
Lauren Laduke- Intramural Coordinator
Lauren is a senior in the Broadcast Journalism and TV Video Production programs from Rochester, NY. She has been involved with all sports since I was a little girl. She enjoys staying active by hiking, swimming, and playing all different sports. Her dream job is to work for ESPN as a sideline reporter for football.
Kyra Traska - Learn to Swim Coordinator
Kyra Traska is a Junior studying in the field of Communication Disorders and Sciences. Kyra is from Rutland Vermont and has been life guard and swimming instructor for the past four years during the summer at Rutland towns pool. She is excited to be the director here at SUNY Plattsburgh and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
